Starting a New Life: The Courage of a Seed. When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. At lunch the other day, a new friend and I were discussing changes in our lives and how everything feels very new and different. I remembered the most beautiful description Mark Nepo wrote in The Book of Awakening . Mark is outline a poet, and he sees the world through such a lovely light. His work opens my heart to images Ive never thought about that are so compelling.

I can see the way Mark describes the process of change in my own life. He compares change to the immense bravery of a seed being forced into on Learning Literacy Childhood, the ground. He describes the painful experience he imagines the seed must endure as it splits apart and becomes something entirely different. Still deeply under the earth, the seedling struggles to find light, water, and personal narrative outline nutrients for life. And one day, it emerges, not recognizable to those who only knew it as a seed. Yet it remembers the journeythe journey to something larger but unknown. I, like the seed, have felt the darkness of the unknown, the claustrophobia of being in a space I did not understand, the anxiety of being in a place I did not feel I had chosen. Without a job, without my identity in the world of business, I felt I might disappear, like the seed deep in the soil of variations, my life. I struggled to trust my eventual transformation, feeling alone and yet filled with expectations for the future.

Then came the experience of cracking openfiguring out what my heart wanted next. It felt painful at first. What if no one understood? Even worse, what if no one listened? As my heart cracked apart, it also contained a seedlinga vision of who I might become. At first I wanted to personal narrative outline protect it. It felt too fresh, too new, and too vulnerable. I needed to guard and nourish it. I become acquainted with this very new self quietly; I wrote in sparknotes great my journal about personal outline what I was feeling, what I desired.

As I sat in Body Image, advertisements, implications traffic or in outline meditation, I gently explored my new loves. I found books from others who had already traveled this path. As I learned more about myself and honored the path that called to me, the great gatsby, seedling became stronger. As I spoke up and stated my truthat first somewhat timidly and then more clearlymy seedling began to grow into something larger and more identifiable. I came to see who I was becoming. I stepped out into narrative outline, the light. I offered my gift to the world. I let go of trying to control the result and honored the moment. As I became more authentic, my life began to take shape. I met other people on similar paths.

Some found me while seeking their own answers. A new circle began to emerge, one based on this new growthmy sturdy little seedling. And like the seed, I remember the sparknotes, journey. I do not discount the dark days spent waiting for the emergence of my self. Narrative. Those days have given me valuable information that I can share with other people on this path.

As I remember my seedling self, carefully coming into being in negative effects my own time, my own season, I know this is what others are experiencing. Narrative. Perhaps I can help to provide nourishment for their seedling. Im excited as I feel this beginning taking hold and surfacing. Im embracing change and trusting that the process of cracking the old shell is so worth the sweet tenderness of the new sprout. Mark says, As a seed buried in the earth cannot imagine itself as an The State of Technology Essay, orchid or hyacinth, neither can a heart packed with hurt imagine itself loved or at peace. Welcome to The Cultivation Through Image, Dear SQL DBA, a podcast and YouTube Show for personal narrative SQL Server developers and negative effects, database administrators. Im Kendra Little from SQLWorkbooks.com.

Ive done the last couple episodes on interviewing and helpful tips for landing that SQL Server DBA job, and I got a related question this week. This question from a reader goes like this Dear SQL DBA, Ive taken courses on becoming a SQL Server DBA recently, but I wasnt getting any calls for interviews. It seems that there just arent opportunities out there for personal outline people who dont have experience. Dsm V. So I added three years of fake experience to my resume saying I had worked as a DBA. Now Im getting calls to screen me, but interviewers are asking me questions about personal outline, real work scenarios. Im very good at DBA work, but how do I prepare for sparknotes these work scenario questions in interviews? Well, this is an honest question. Outline. Sort of.

I mean, its an honest question about negative, being dishonest, right? Once you start lying on your resume, its hard to stop. There are a lot of people out there who lie on their resumes. We know this from the news: there are executives who get caught late in their careers having faked degrees. Outline. If you think about this, youre like, wow, how could this person who went so far be so dumb as to dsm v personality disorders lie about this in the modern age? Once you lie about something, youre stuck with that lie because your resume is out there, or your LinkedIn profile that used to contain the lie is personal cached, or there is some evidence out The State of Technology in Universities Essay, there. Or someone in narrative outline, your network knows that you once said that you had an experience, or you had a degree, or you had a certification and it will catch up with you! In the modern world, once you start on effects, this path of being dishonest, it is very hard to change it. People who do this often have it follow them for personal outline a very long time. Lots of regional, people looking for DBA jobs have fake experience, and narrative outline, they get caught. There are a lot of people out there who look for DBA jobs and The State Essay, who lie about their experience. Outline. Or lie about their certifications, or have even cheated to variations get those certifications.

When folks ask, will a certification help with my career? a big part of the reason that certifications dont hold that much weight when it comes to hiring managers anymore is there is a history of a lot of people cheating on certifications. While it might become part of an personal narrative outline overall successful package when you go through interviews, people are really going to rain want to make sure that you do have experience, and you do really know things. Thats the reason that just saying you have a certification isnt good enough. For our questioner, and for personal narrative for anyone else whos in this boat because there are other people who do this! I know, because Ive done a lot of phone screens: there are a lot of people who fake experience, and personality, it becomes pretty obvious in the interview process. Narrative. There are a couple things that you should know about the DBA job. 1. The State. Faking your resume means youre not a good DBA.

In fact you are NOT good at being a DBA. Narrative. Our questioner said, I am good at this SQL DBA stuff. Actually youre not, and it is the wrong job for you. Im not saying this out of rain, moral outrage, Im saying this practically because the essence of the DBA job, in fact the most important core thing about being a DBA is about being accountable when things go wrong. As a SQL Server DBA, this isnt just about knowledge of what page size the SQL Server uses, or SQL Server internals. The core job of the DBA is to personal be the person whos answering questions like: Why were we offline? Why is the regional data wrong? Why does this customer say we lost data? Why didnt this change go as planned? You said it would be like X but it didnt go that way, why? What happened to those indexes? Why do we have corruption? Why didnt we find this earlier? A core in fact I think really THE most important thing about being a DBA is to be honest and narrative outline, accountable about what happened, and what we should do in the future. As a DBA, if when things get hot and when things get under pressure, if your impulse is to make something up in the moment to say something to get the heat off you its going to go really really badly for disorders you. Its going to be a time where you lose your job, where you have a hard time getting another job, and you get really really burnt in terms of being able to succeed. As a DBA you need to be able to tell the truth even when its really unpleasant, and doesnt work in your favor. Personal Narrative Outline. In the The Cultivation of Womanhood Through advertisements, implications long run that always works better for you as a DBA, but in the short term it is really really hard, and if your inclination is to personal narrative outline lie on your resume about your experience that shows that youre not suited to the most core, important things about being a DBA. 2. It usually takes a long time to sparknotes gatsby land a DBA job.

The second thing you should know, is that yes, it does take a long time to get a DBA job. There are actually a lot of good reasons for that. This isnt a new thing that its hard to get a job as a DBA. Its its been hard to get a job as a DBA for a long time. When you think about data, usually data is narrative outline one of a companys most valuable assets. If they lose data, or the data is massively incorrect, or even just if a database is offline for a long time, this often can be a business ending event. Disorders. Not just expensive, but so expensive that the company cant proceed. This is personal narrative so critical that they want people managing the dsm v personality disorders data who have not only knowledge about how to keep the data online, but also experience at handling things when they go wrong, and experience at personal narrative outline, planning successful changes, and negative of acid, preventing things from going wrong. Experience in a lot of processes.

They also someone who has experience being accountable. I had a lot of education, I had a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree, and my path to personal narrative outline becoming a DBA took more than five years. Great Gatsby. When I was in graduate school, I discovered that I loved working with data. I had a work-study job where I got to work with Access databases, and I found it fascinating. Personal. After I got my degree, I wanted to do it full-time, but I had to move through so many different jobs because no one would hire me as a DBA. I didnt have the regional experience, and frankly I didnt have the accountability. So I worked through all sorts of different jobs and I would always look for narrative jobs where I could work with data, where I could get a little more experience: understanding processes, understanding how different teams work together. Finally I got a job at effects, a software company, but I still wasnt a DBA. I had to very carefully work myself to a place where I had enough experience that I could get a job as a DBA, and I still had to narrative go from a relatively secure full-time job to a contracting job as an DBA. but it was worth it to me because as I progressed through that, it was still what I enjoyed the most. Regional. It was still what I wanted to do.

But for a lot of people, there might be places along this journey where along the way you find out you actually like doing something else better. Thats totally valid. But I needed all of the personal experience that I got on this five year journey to finally getting to be DBA. How software development works in different situations; how you can make it work the best for your data; how you can manage changes with different types of software development: these are things I learned. How I could design changes and minimize risk; how to react when things go wrong and that is not a simple thing to great gatsby learn about, how to outline react when things go wrong. Over these five years, I saw a lot of regional, different things go wrong, and I got to see different teams reacted to that, how they started the narrative outline approach, how flexible they were, how they communicated during it, how they followed it up on sparknotes, it, what went well, what should change in the future. Personal Narrative. I mean it was all stuff that when I finally did get that DBA job I used it all. And right now, for The State of Technology Essay our questioner: when things are wrong your reaction is to fake it.

It takes a while to change something like this. Now, its its possible that you could learn something different, right? I mean its not like if you lie once in personal narrative, your life and youre doomed forever, and sparknotes great gatsby, youre never going to be able to be a DBA. Personal Narrative. Im not saying that. But right now, your reaction is to personality disorders fake it and to be a successful DBA youre really gonna have to personal train that out of you, because that will backfire on you, and it will just burn you over and over. Eventually it will just get you out of this career.

But to change things, and to get the experience needed and really move away from that, so when things go wrong you think of The Cultivation Advertisement: Image, spending, multiple viable options that you can do that have nothing to do with faking it thats going to take possibly longer than five years. Youre likely to narrative outline get derailed before you get there. Sparknotes Great. Honesty is just an essential essential business skill for DBA. If youre starting out at narrative, a place where youre not in great, the honesty range and you lack this essential skill, I would honestly look elsewhere just because of narrative, efficiency. Getting to of acid rain the point where you can be creative and be honest all the time is going to personal narrative outline be a really big leap in variations, addition to learning everything else that you need to learn you can get there. Outline. It may just take a very very long time, and The State Essay, I would focus on driving all of that impulse to fake it out of all of your responses to life, because that is just gonna truly poison your career as a DBA.

For some folks, you may be like, Well, what about exaggeration? A lot of people do exaggerate on personal narrative, their resumes. When you are building your resume, if you know that youre exaggerating about dsm v personality, something dont do it. Dont inflate numbers, dont put things on narrative outline, your resume that arent true. For other people, it can be a little trickier: some people have a hard time writing their resume because even just stating the truth feels like bragging to them. Dsm V Personality. But a lot of times if youre one of outline, those people and youre self-conscious, and youre just trying to even state your accomplishments, and youre like, oh but Im worried that Im being dishonest, find someone to work with on great gatsby, your resume. Someone honest youre not hiring someone to personal narrative outline fake things for of Womanhood Advertisement: Body Image, advertisements, spending you but but find someone who to personal narrative help you translate your experience into resume versions of of acid, that statement, which may at outline, first feel like bragging to you. But bragging is fine. Dsm V Personality Disorders. Dishonesty is outline NOT fine.

On a resume, bragging is Advertisement: spending implications what really its all about. You want to keep it real, you dont want to brag about things that didnt happen, but you do want to on a resume youre saying, Hey, heres the personal narrative cool stuff that I did, and you want to be upfront and you want to be clear about that. Finding someone to work with you on your resume who you can talk things out with, and get a short phrasing of negative, things that is still accurate, other people can help you with that. Maybe its a friend, maybe its a professional resume writer, maybe its a past colleague or a mentor. Other folks can help you with that as well. Narrative Outline. I do want to distinguish that feeling like youre bragging is absolutely not the same thing necessarily as being dishonest. The truth is variations we all know when were lying, and thats the personal narrative trait that just wont serve you as a DBA.

I would like to thank my questioner for an honest question. I hope you take this feedback that I really I really dont think this is the career for you I hope you take that to heart, and I do wish you the The Cultivation of Womanhood Through Image, habits, implications best in your career, wherever it takes you. But yeah as a DBA really that accountability is narrative just such a critical, critical business skill. Thanks for on Learning Literacy Skills Childhood joining me this week for Dear SQL DBA. Im Kendra Little, and Ill see you again next week. 2 Responses to I faked my resume now what? (video with transcript)

Im always surprised when people lie or even exaggerate on their resume, it seems extremely short-sighted to me. Theres almost no way that that wont come back to haunt you. Ive always gone by the thought that if I get hired, as the months go by, I want people to say Hey, Im really glad we hired him rather than that other person, Tom knows even more than I thought he did. I definitely dont want them to say I sure wish wed hired that other person, Tom doesnt know anywhere near what I thought he did. This has sometime been a problem for me since I test and interview great, much better than I am. And Im sure its cost me an opportunity or two. But on the other hand, Ive never been fired from narrative, a job in my life. #128578; BTW, I love the direction youre going with the training. Kendra, thank you for this post. Gatsby. As a junior DBA myself, I constantly teeter back and forth between feeling like a have a pretty good handle on my role, and feeling like Oh god, what have I gotten myself into?? Your words, though, affirm what Ive come to personal find out in my short tenure as a SQL Server DBA: anyone can learn the technical skills, but the most important aspect of being a successful DBA, above all else, is having good judgement. Ive found that most employers recognize that and are good at sniffing it out sparknotes great, when interviewing candidates. Upcoming live Thursday webinars: 9 am Pacific / noon Eastern / 4 pm UTC.
